Johnny & the Rocket Swing Fore Charity New Addition to Administaff Small Business Classic
HOUSTON (September 11, 2006) – Johnny Bench and Roger Clemens, along with some of the greatest athletes in sports and entertainment, are joining forces to raise money for charity in a special addition to the Administaff Small Business Classic.
The inaugural Johnny & the Rocket Swing Fore Charity event will kickoff with a morning Pro-Am at Carlton Woods Golf Club on Friday, October 13 and then move to Augusta Pines that afternoon for a fan feature. Patrons of the Administaff Small Business Classic will then be treated to a 36-hole stroke-play competition between the celebrity athletes that will intermingle with the Champions Tour competition on Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15. This competition will have a $250,000 purse which will be payable to a designated charity.
“We are so grateful Roger Clemens and Johnny Bench have decided to lend their names and efforts toward creating another way we can raise money for charity,” said Tournament Director Bryan Naugle. “Fans are in for a real treat. To be able to see the great players of the Champions Tour, entertainers and some of the great athletes in all of sports at the same venue is a special opportunity.”
Some of the game’s greats have already committed to the $1.6 million tournament, including Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd, Curtis Strange, Loren Roberts, Hale Irwin, Ben Crenshaw, Fuzzy Zoeller, Craig Stadler and Tom Kite.
Proceeds from the Administaff Small Business Classic presented by UnitedHealthcare will benefit local charities, including the George and Barbara Bush Endowment for Innovative Cancer Research at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Golfers Against Cancer and Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas . ”
