Golfers Against Cancer
www.golfersagainstcancer.org
Golfers Against Cancer was established in Kingwood, Texas by a group of golfers wishing to help friends and family members diagnosed with the disease. Their monies and fundraising efforts fuel the work of researchers dedicated to finding a cure.
Beneficiaries of the funds are selected on the basis of the most promising cancer research to speed a cure and those who assure that all donated funds go directly to cancer research. Preference is given to research causes that use medical peer review to determine ongoing funding and monitoring progress. |

Our charity spotlight for this issue is the Arabia Shriners of Houston. This organization, where only men are allowed to be members, is known as the "World's Greatest Fraternity." There are over 500,000 Shriners who belong to 191 Shrine Temples stretching from the United States, Canada, Mexico and Republic of Panama.
In 2008, the Arabia Shriners of Houston were integral to the success of the tournament. By operating the volunteer and sponsor shuttle buses, the Shriners safely brought tournament volunteers and tournament patrons to and from the golf course.
The Shriners have opened twenty-two hospitals for children. Eighteen of the hospitals are orthopedic centers, one of which is located in Houston, three are burn centers and one provides orthopedic, spinal cord injury and burn care services. The Shriners Hospitals for Children have helped and cured more than 700,000 children with services provided at no cost to the parent or child.
The Shriners Hospital for Children in Houston has 40 beds and treats children who have complex orthopedic problems with the mission to provide care to children with orthopedic problems, burn or spinal cord injuries and certain other medical conditions in order to help them lead fuller, more productive lives.

Cenikor Foundation
www.cenikor.org
For more than 40 years, the Cenikor Foundation has specialized in helping people with chronic addictions break the cycle of addiction. This long-term recovery program takes place within a therapeutic community environment in Texas or Louisiana using peer influence and clinical counseling to treat addictive behavior. Residents learn to look within themselves and come to terms with the root causes of their addictions.
Cenikor believes that there is no quick fix for years of addiction. The road to recovery is a gradual and consistent process that takes perseverance and commitment from individuals who truly desire to change their lives for the better. The recovery program lasts approximately 18-24 months.
Clients work with Community Business Partners or in jobs within the facility in en route to recovery. As a community business partner at the Administaff Small Business Classic, Cenikor clients assisted in landscape maintenance during tournament week.
Recovery is not an easy path and it is not for everyone. But, for men and women, 18 years of age and older, who truly want to change, Cenikor works. Ninety percent of those who graduate from the program each year remain clean and sober.
